Résumé
Abstract
The
aim of
this research is to determine meteorite porosity from reflectance
coefficient measurements
using ultrasonic waves. The goal is to develop a simple and reliable
technique
for non-destructive measurements, suitable for meteorite
characterization. The
technique is primarily based on the exploitation of the first
backscattered
echo from a meteorite thin-section under oblique incidence at two
different
angles utilising the theoretical model of Biot (1956a, b). We present
our results
for the meteorite samples, collected in Morocco, which include two
varieties: 4
ordinary chondrite meteorites (L, LL and H) and 3 achondrite meteorites
(NWA
5191, Toufassour and Al Haggounia). Our results show that the ordinary
chondrites have a porosity which is less than 10%, while achondrite
meteorites
have a porosity which exceeds 10%. Our results agreement with similar
previously
published work.
